SWOT Analysis for AlJamiah Internet Cafe
A SWOT Analysis looks at a company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It aims to reveal the competitive advantages of the company as well as analyze its prospects for sales and profitability.

It also aims to prepare a company for problems which may arise, allowing for the development of contingency plans.

An analysis of the company’s strengths and weaknesses is an internal examination. It is usually based on an analysis of facts and assumptions about the company and on market research findings.

The opportunity and threat analysis is carried out by examining external factors, e.g. economic or social trends, changes in your competitors’ behavior etc.

Actually I faced difficulties to choose certain company or topic to apply SWOT analyses on it. Because I want to choose smoothing I fell familiar with it. Finally I decided to choose AL-Jamiah internet cafe shop. Because I spend daily many hours in this internet coffee shop and I know exactly what is going on there. I have learned many things during this exiting assignments and I hope that I apply SWOT analysis very well. And I think this assignment is a good preparation for the first step in project team.

Actually, I find that SWOT analysis is very helpful method in strategic planning but would be better if we have take the marketing research first before assignment because marketing research will help us in gathering information about specific market and then we will be able to apply SWOT analysis very well.

SWOT Analysis for Start-up Small Consultancy Business

A start-up small consultancy business might draw up the
following SWOT or TOWS matrix:

Strengths:

  • We are able to respond very quickly as we have no red tape, no need for
    higher management approval, etc.
  • We are able to give really good customer care, as the current small amount
of work means we have plenty of time to devote to customers
  • Our lead consultant has strong reputation within the market
  • We can change direction quickly if we find that our marketing is not working
  • We have little overhead, so can offer good value to customers

Weaknesses:

  • Our company has no market presence or reputation
  • We have a small staff with a shallow skills base in many areas
  • We are vulnerable to vital staff being sick, leaving, etc.
  • Our cash flow will be unreliable in the early stages

Opportunities:
  • Our business sector is expanding, with many future opportunities for success
  • Our local council wants to encourage local businesses with work where
    possible
  • Our competitors may be slow to adopt new technologies

Threats:

  • Will developments in technology change this market beyond our ability to
    adapt?
  • A small change in focus of a large competitor might wipe out any market
    position we achieve
  • The consultancy may therefore decide to specialize in rapid
response, good value services to local businesses. Marketing would be in
selected local publications, to get the greatest possible market presence for a
set advertising budget. The consultancy should keep up-to-date with changes in
    technology where possible.

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is one specific type of planning. Strategies are the outcome of strategic planning. An organization's strategies define the business the firm is in, the criteria for entering the business, and the basic actions the organization will follow in conducting its business. Strategies are major plans that commit large amounts of the organization's resources to proposed actions, designed to achieve its major objectives and goals. Strategic planning is the process by which the organization's strategies are determined In the process, three basic questions are answered:
1. Where are we now?
2. Where do we want to be?
3. How do we get there?
The "where are we now?" question is answered through the first three steps of the strategy formulation process: (1)perform internal and external environmental analyses, (2)review vision, mission and objectives, and (3)determine SWOT: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. SWOT analysis requires managers to be honest, self-disciplined and thorough. Going on to strategy choices without a comprehensive SWOT analysis is risky.

Strengths and weaknesses come from the internal environment of the firm. Strengths can be exploited, built upon and made key to accomplishment of mission and objectives. Strengths reflect past accomplishments in production, financial, marketing and human resource management. Weaknesses are internal characteristics that have the potential to limit accomplishment of mission and objectives. Weaknesses may be so important that they need to be addressed before any further strategic planning steps are taken.
Opportunities and threats are uncontrollable by management because they are external to the firm. Opportunities provide the firm the possibility of a major improvement. Threats may stand in the way of a firm reaching its mission and objectives.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT Analysis is an easy-to-use tool for developing an overview of a company’s strategic situation. It forms a basis for matching your company’s internal attributes of strengths (S) and Weaknesses (W) against the external factors of Opportunities (O) and Threats (T).
It is simple yet very powerful strategic planning tool. This blog is a collection of SWOT Analysis samples for many areas for undergraduate students of engineering colleges who take engineering management course.
